Is it better to have non-clinical volunteering at 1 place, such as a homeless shelter or an animal shelter, or would it be okay to join an club/organization that volunteers at several different places throughout the year? For example, this club might volunteer with Habitat for Humanity one weekend and a homeless shelter the next weekend. Overall I would get the same amount of hours but I thought it would be more fun/less boring to switch it up a little.

It's better to have some longevity with one organization, but if you're just starting out and don't yet know what cause might appeal to you, joining a club that provides a diversity of experiences for awhile is fine.

Your activities help tell the story of who you are as an applicant. If you want to volunteer at multiple places, just make sure that you have longitudinal work with all so that you can put together a strong narrative.
