Non-Completion of PsyD Program in the Required Time

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I had a similar situation due to family illness and also my own physical illness that delayed my progression through the program. As long as you have made substantial progress regarding passing comps, completing practicums successfully, and making progress on CRP you most likely would be able to petition for an extra year. Another factor is that students are not matching for the internship and some have to apply two times before finding a Match. I understand that in California they have the CAPPIC so most find internships despite being low paying or non paying.

You need to consult with your advisor as my guess is they will work with you since mainitaining their APA accreditation is tied into graduation rates so they probably want you to finish up the program.

I've know students who have had to take off two years or more because of a severe medical concern (cancer or other illness) and some of them actually returned to school four years later to finish up their degree. Although they have rules of time duration these may be adjusted based on extenuating circumstances. One of our students was a nurse in the military and her national guard unit was called to go to IRAQ so she had to take a two year leave of absence.
