ok, so i hate to keep asking the same question... but i'm getting different answers from different people.

In my last post i asked if bio 2 was required to get into dental school. A couple people said, yes of course it is. However, a friend of mine got into d school without it and took bio 1 and cell for the two semesters of bio.
SO, for those of you that didn't major in science and took only the prereqs to get in, did you all take bio 2?

I would just like some re-inforcement that bio 2 ISN'T required so i don't feel uneasy about not taking it this semester...

Look at the schools' website, a year of biology is required. It'll help out for the DAT

i was a non science major. if you look at most all dental school websites, 1 years or 2 semesters of general bio is required. why not take it?

bio 2 covers basic stuff you need to know for the dat and dental school such as respiration.

i was a business major and took
General Bio 1 and 2
General chem 1 and 2
Organic Chem 1 and 2
physics 1 and 2 all with labs
bio chem 1
human anatomy (with actual cadavers that we dissected)

you know what your mistake is???

I'll tell ya (for free) wink wink

you're asking different people, hence the word differnt with different status and different backgrounds, schools they've applied, etc.

YOU need to call the schools you want to apply to and ask them ABOUT YOU and YOUR situation not to mention their bio requirements.
some will take upper bios for the general and some wont. call them....

Everyone will tell you something different...

How the hell would your friend be able to take cell bio w/ out bio 2?

At my school, the prereqs for cell bio include genetics and biochem 1.

The prereqs for genetics at my school includes bio1 and bio2.

Again.. HOW?

Are you asking for the DAT or for completion of bio 2 before going to dental school?

I wasn't a science major, but I wanted to take Cell Bio and other upper division bio classes with pre-reqs. I just went to the professors, told them my goal of dental school, told them I was smart and would dominate their classes. They let me in, and I did.

No, I mean how would this dude's friend take cell bio WITHOUT the prereqs?

Oh sorry I guess I wasn't too clear on that... I meant that I actually didn't take some of the pre-reqs for classes that had them. I just asked the professors if I could take their classes anyway and every single time they let me.

Although I did take Bio 2... don't see how you can get around that since it's a pre-req to pretty much every dental school, not just cell bio.

The alternative is to skip ds altogether and go straight into private practice.
