I asked my Psychology professor for a recommendation letter today and he was glad to write one but said he wasn't familiar with how to write medical school recs and asked that I give him a "sample letter" so he could make sure he wrote his rec appropriately as he is mostly familiar with writing recs for Psychology PhD programs, which emphasize characteristics about the student that are good for research. I'm just a little confused what I should give him; is this one of those write your own rec and let the professor embellish/add their own commentary and sign, or should I give him some guidelines for writing a good med school rec, or should I just tell him to write it the same way he would write for a Psychology PhD program, as I am shooting for research med schools (although its worth noting that I never did research with him and only wrote a grant proposal for final project, but this is for my non-science rec)?
