Hi everyone,

I am a current PharmD Student who is transitioning to MD. I was wondering what are my chances if I were to stop pharmacy school midst my second year and then matriculate into the 2026 incoming class next fall. Please be honest, but considerate of my story.

My story:
I have always wanted to go to med school since I was 10 years old. I am a first generational college and doctoral candidate student from both sides of my family. In undergraduate, I was a chemistry major but was not sure what I could do with it. I had no one to go to help me figure it out. I was looking up the difference between pharmacy school and medical school and ultimately my decision came to pharmacy school because they no longer required to take the PCAT. In pharmacy school, I always battled with uncertainty if i picked the right profession. After May of this year, I shadowed a pharmacist and felt like it did not align with my end goals. I respect BOTH CAREERS because they are both highly knowledgeable, but in the end, there was a lack of patient interaction with the pharmacist. Personally, I love patient interaction and the leadership of an attending with rounds, so I was recently turned to liking the MD role more. I have plenty of research experience at my school, even one working at a top pharmaceutical company this summer as a Oncology Clinical Scientist. Plenty of clinical hours as well as a pharmacist intern for 2 years and a CNA for an entire summer. I have taken all pre-reqs for medical school and currently enrolled in a master program for biomedical sciences. MCAT date is September 4th. Undergrad GPA 3.1.
What are my chances in getting into medical school this cycle?
Any advice is well appreciated.

Hey, this sounds like a phenomenal story. Do you know if the school you're at have a linkage into the medical school? There are some master's program that crosses over into their medical school if you do well in their biomedical sciences program

Hi, thank you for your response! The current MS program I am enrolled in does have an affiliating medical school, but it is for osteopathic medicine. I am applying to both MD and osteopathic medicine schools, but I have not started my DO medical school list yet.
