so at what age are you considered a "non-traditional" student. I know there are other things that come into account like having a degree other than the sciences, or family or taking an absence from school. Is there a defining age that throws you over the fence into the "non traditional" side?

I think non-traditional is "traditionally" defined as someone entering a new field in some other way than the "normal" route one "usually" takes.
Me, for example: 1. Mid thirties 2. Graduated from college in 94:scared: 3. A wife and 3 kids I'm a definite non-trad.

You mentioned most of the criteria, and to my knowledge, there really isn't a specific 'age' at which you're considered non-traditional. Many will consider you to be non-traditional even if you do not go directly into (dental, medicine, whatever) school a year or two out of undergrad. If I had to put an age on it, I'd say 26+. At that age, it is likely that you have obtained a few life experiences that fresh undergrads have not. That being said, eveyone is different, and it really isn't possible to put an age that you can judge all students by.
