Hi guys!

I am posting this question for my friend who doesn't even know what SDN is, but I have been helping her with her PS and needs advice. She is 30 and applying to dental school this cycle, but has significant gaps in her education (college for two years with 1.9 GPA, took 5 years off, major neck and spinal cord surgery) but came back with a 3.7 GPA for her final two years. How do nontrads typically address this sort of thing in a PS? I would love some insight.

Thank you!

You address it as a challenge you have to overcome. Now where you put it is all up to you.

Has she done shadowing? Dentist are hunched over all the time, can she physically do that? It's an extremely physical occupation.

I have a similar gap in my education, but I was working. I didn't focus on my gap in my PS; however, I did talk about it in the section that asks if you had a gap in your education. I think they gave me like 600 words to respond.

Yes! She has 700 hours and is a dental assistant, so she definitely knows the physical demands of the job. Thank you!
