I had a few people join our practice from northwell. They all said they worked really hard. People kept leaving so they were short people. Pay was per hour and they had to work full day post call sometimes. Also , they said ob call was very busy. Seems like some of the surgeons are giant dicks which is probably the same everywhere else. I’ve heard that it’s full now which is surprising with how many people that left.

Our group has had one person go to a Northwell practice and one come from a Northwell practice and from what I was told I can echo everything said above. I'm of the opinion, from what I've heard, if you don't want to be in academics and want to make a good amount of money in the NYC are they're the better of the options but you're gonna work for it

Wow- those jobs paid mid 300s in the 2013-2019 era for probably similar hours
The wild thing is there are some jobs in the area that are still paying that for full call taking physicians but there must be some perk for those job other than living in Brooklyn or Manhattan. I do think some just succumb to a modest lifestyle and accept it because lets be real 350k a larger salary than a great majority of New Yorkers. It's a tough one though because many of these hospitals also cover poor populations so it's not like the hospitals are getting big commercial reimbursements, as a opposed to the patient population of a certain Northwell facilities on the Upper East Side or Westchester County. For a lot of use it's hard to stomach making half as much money as our colleagues and working the same hours.

I worked at the North Shore University Hospital site for a bit after training. It is busy. Most non tertiary hospitals wind down around 3pm and at North Shore that 3pm is like 5-6pm. Busy Ob. Busy cardiac. Upper class trauma - falls, brain bleeds, etc. A mix of covering residents, CRNAs, and sitting own cases. The group there at the time was a fun mix of guys but that has probably changed since I left and NAPA has become Northwell. 620 is great but you will work.

This is what I’ve heard about North Shore currently. The ability to make significantly more than $620k exists, but you will work hard for every bit of it. Northwell has a bunch of smaller sites that are probably less busy, but I have to imagine there is a bit of “staff sharing” nowadays between those sites given the shortage.

When I was there you got two days post call which was nice. If they needed you the second post call day you were compensated. A reflection of how busy it is. This may not be the case now.

That’s good for 1997 😉

“It also correctly determined that the defendant's gross income was $653,201 per year as reported on his 1997 Federal income tax return, and properly deducted FICA and Medicare taxes from that sum.”

That's 1.24 million in today's dollars!!!

I remember that story! Didn’t realize it was the same guy.

I think most people in the job hunt should understand that pulling in over 600 anywhere is going require a fair amount of work, especially if they’re in the so called “desired” areas. If people are out there making over 600k going home at 3pm everyday with minimal call please DM me so I’m can send you my cv.

Certainly possible.
The devil is in the details and most of those details people won’t know until they’re actually working for the group

I think you have to look at the total compensation as well. 620k sounds good on paper but the benefits didn’t seem that great from what my colleagues who left were telling me.

I make over 600 with reasonable hours (certainly under 2000 hours per year). My job is not easy though (3-4:1 supervison, level 1 trauma, complex ob, peds of all ages). Also located in a place 90+% would never consider living.

Money, lifestyle, location - pick 2 (or sometimes 1 lol). I am lucky that I enjoy living in a place most would not.
