I wanted some advice regarding the essay question:

We want to know more about how you came to the decision to pursue a career in medicine. If you believe your AMCAS application?s ?Personal Comments? essay answers this question, tell us anything more you?d like the Committee on Admissions to know about you and your career aspirations.

SInce, in my personal statement i already included why i wanted to purse a career in medicine, i wanted to write about my career aspirations....I am interested in rural medicine and at some point in my life like to be involved with doctors without borders or an organization to that extent....

I was wondering what you guys thought of the idea of opening with a small paragraph as if i see myself in the future to make it more catchy...for example:
Already damp from the African heat, my perspiration increases as I struggle to sew the last stitch on the little boys arm.......

and then go on to describe my aspirations or should i just answer the question

or something else like that (by the way i just made that up to give you an idea)

Thanx in advance

that does sound really interesting. but are you sure that northwestern is looking for students committed to rural medicine? you may want to research NU's curriculum and/or characteristics the committee looks for in its applicants.

agree... do some research. i like the intro but i would focus more on the doctors without borders spiel. I mean you can gloss over the rural business. best of luck with the deadline!

Overall - taking some creative license when you write is a great thing. The content - well you'll have to work on that. But the idea that you gave for writing an intro is fabulous.

I don't know if this really applies, but I am on the hiring committee at work and I constantly see hundreds of bland cover letters that are incredibly boring. I love it when people have the courage to write something more interesting. I'm going to do something similar when I start scripting my personal statement.
