so i was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of nose scabs in cats nares.. at least that is what they appear to be. They started appearing shortly after we got him... (~5 months old). He is about 9-10 months now. They are dark brown/black in color along the under surface of his nose (just inside the nostril) and do not come off easily. He does sneeze every once in awhile (several times a day), more than other cats i have had. He gets dark crusties in the medial corners of his eyes 1-2 days a week.

Thanks.

The sneezing and the eye crusties sound like feline herpes. This condition is relatively common in cats as it is very easily transmitted (only to cats though, not to humans!). However, I've never heard of this being related to nose scabs. Here's a link to a better description: http://www.animalhealthchannel.com/rhinotracheitis/

Your best bet is always to take him to see a vet.

my cat periodically gets these black "scabs" but i never thought they were actually scabs because when i would pull them out or off his nose, there was no wound underneath. Therefore, i just thought they were kind of like boogers (sorry to be so crude) building up, but i don't really no nor did i do any research on it since i only saw it every once in a while.

thanks for the replies. i will bring him to the vet soon. i am not sure if they are scabs or not, but i am not sure if they are 'boogers' or not. They line the nose and stick pretty tight. When I try to remove them it seems to aggitate him, so I have given up trying to remove them. Other than this though, he seems healthy. No loss of appetite or weight loss, etc. I am kind of hoping it is just allergies.... not sure if that exists in cats.

It definately sounds like feline herpes. Not much you can do.

They basically have the eye boogers and nose boogers indefinately. If they have a major outbreak (Will happen if they ever get majorly stressed or have to provide an immune response to another/multiple disease/sickness) you can apply steroids and antibiotics...but even then I'm not very convinced of the effectiveness.

giving your cat l-lysine should help with the eye...you can get it at a human viatmin store. there's a new form of l-lysine made just for cats called enisyl-f, your vet will probably be able to order it.
