Not a great start

Well I just finished my first semester as a do-it yourself post-bac and had some untimely nonacademic interference along the way. I got B's in Cem II, Bio I, and Physics I, and a **** C- in Cal. I.
Anyone else have a similar start?
I graduated in May with honors and definetly feel more confident going into my second post-bac semester, but I'm still curious to know if anyone has or knows someone who has successfully recovered their med school competitiveness from a rough start like this?

You're not dead yet. Unless things have changed, med school does not require calculus. It requires a year of college math, some require stats. Look at AMSAR (american medical school admissions requirements).

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad you feel I'm not dead yet. I've seen some of your replies to other posts and you seem like a really honest, straight shooter.
Many schools I've looked at require Calculus or a stats. I received an A in stats. but it was given by the liberal arts department. Do you know if I could use my stats grade instead or do I even have a choice between which class they consider? If not, would it be bennificial to retake Cal I?

Hi there,
Do not re-take a course that you received a C in. You have passed the course so your calculus requirement is fulfilled (albeit not the grade you wanted). Figure out how you can get an A or two next semester, and work hard.

Enjoy the holiday and keep moving forward. You might want to cut back on the course load. Pre-med courses are very time demanding and you need quality not so much quantity.

All schools in Texas require either Calculus or Stats taught in the Math dept, but at least one (maybe more) will take Calculus only.

It really all depends on the school your best bet is to consult AMSAR (american medical school admissions requirements). It will provide you with invaluable information regarding the specific prereqs of each school.

Many schools require a year of college math including calculus, and a year of college physics. I'd double check, but i'm 99% sure that it doesn't specifically say calculus.

Whatever you do DON"T retake calc 1 if you don't have to. It's obviously not your best subject and the grade will show up on your AMCAS application anyways.

If I were you my strategy would be to avoid taking future calc courses.

Both your stats and Calc grades will be seen my your future med school.

Not sure what you meant by this. Were these your scores?
