Got the UC Davis email rejection yesterday. I laughed it off. I guess I realized that there is no way that EVERY school I applied to is going to interview me. There will be lots of rejections... considering I applied to 28 schools. I figure that AT LEAST 15 (probably 20 or so) schools will reject me before an interview. Cant get mad each time.

Me too!! And I really wanted to go there too, so this is kind of a sucky day for me. Oh well...
Keep your heads up guys. The vast majority of us will or have already gotten thin envelopes. I got a rejection from Case Western a little while ago. I think it would only be abnormal to get interviews at all the schools we applied especially in California.
I did too! It is my first rejection and I am having a hard time coping with it. Top that off, my parents just announced their intention to file for divorce last night. And my UCSD interview is on Monday. I am sorry I am sharing this here, but I feel like the world is falling apart around me. I need to somehow focus on this one good thing. Good luck everyone.
Thanks for posting you guys - it helps to know I was not the only one to receive that email... now, evey time I hear that new mail sound, I am hesitant to check it. I applied to four UCs (not SF) not expecting secondaries, but then I got all of them (it was a big surprise). UCD is the first to reject, and I just this minute got a "hold for possible later interview" from SD. Has anyone had any luck with that one?

I'm pullin for ya over here in Arizona. I think you really deserve a chance at Med School, at least from what I have read. You have tried and been persistent for so many years, I don't know how many of us would hold onto this dream for that long. Med schools can teach anyone to become a doctor, but passion and dedication come from within. Someone will give you a chance and I'm sure you'll succeed.

I just came back from the UC Irvine interview to see the rejection email from Davis. I don't get the UC's. I'm interviewing at UCSF next week, but still get rejected from Davis and on hold for an interview at SD....

I am DEEPLY concerned about this thread!! Third application cycle and no acceptances with a PhD on the way? That is so horribly discouraging. Please tell us what you think is going on with your application! Could it be that you were trying to get into a MD program without completing the PhD you started? It's really freaking me out as one of those 21 year olds coming straight out of undergrad.
none - I'm writing my dissertation and finishing up my work right now. I'll most likely graduate in May - if not, then August. At this point, I don't know what it is. The only thing sticking out is the UG GPA (3.3). Grad is 3.5 - my Master's year it was a 3.7. Some will say the third time is frowned upon, but the last time I applied was in 1996, before I joined the PhD program.

hang in there, just keep putting one foot in front of the other,but don't ignore your feelings around all of this change in oyur life, it sounds corny but it works, you have no control over other people's actions (even your parents)..being an older non-traditional student who has been an ER nurse for a few years, I've seen many who have entered the medical profession without really being in touch with their feelings..sort of robotic actually (not everyone, of course) but the majority...they've perhaps been so focused on premed, med school, etc. that they often seem so uncomfortable when a patient expresses feelings (ex. crying) I've seen some actually walk out of the room when this happens...so, without sounding too "touchy-feely", what you're going through (your parents divorce) is very tough...talk it out with friends and possibly a counselor if you feel that would help....working through this the right way will definitely make you a more humane, compassionate physician. In my line of work I've seen many people die of all ages, when the family and friends get to the ER, I've never once heard someone say "gee, and they had such a great GPA"
what I have heard is "they made me laugh no matter what".."He was such agreat Dad and husband"..."she was such a great friend, always there if you needed her"...good luck to you, hang in there

Aaugh! I just got back from my UCI interview too and got the same e-mail. (Cali, maybe we were at Irvine at the same time?) I'm soo heartbroken about this. I mean, I went to Davis and I loved that school. I would have loved to go there. I feel betrayed somehow.
I requested an address for appeal (since there was none in the email) and this is what I got back:

has received your request for an appeal and or feedback regarding your
application to the U.C. Davis School of Medicine. Unfortunately, the
Admissions Committee will not be considering appeals this year. Currently,
all efforts are directed towards applications actively being considered for

application is not being considered for admission into the 2002 entering
class.
We appreciate your patience and hope you understand that the Admissions
Committee will attend to your questions after all other applications have
