So I just took a few midterms and whatnot, and it didn't go so well for me.

In Anat & Phys, I got an 83% on my lab and an 88% on my lecture midterm. My quizzes are averaging around an 85ish%. My chances of an A now are slim.

In Statistics, I got an 83% on my first test, a 14.75 out of 15 quiz average, and 28 out of 30 on my project. However, I am not very good at taking Math tests as they take me a long time to do, since math has never been my strong subject. The other day, I got a 59/100 on my test because I did not have time to finish. Good-bye chance at an A!

On top of this, in my Applied Anatomy course for my major, the best I can get after a few not so hot grades is a B, which I can do.

I have this problem every semester. I try to get an A, but somehow I destroy my chances, Thus, this makes me look like an incompetent fool..which I am not. I take most tests very well! Can anyone help?

dood chill! B's =/= incompetent fool

keep your head up and you'll do fine.

You can never get an A in everything. The important thing is that you actually know the information enough.

Wow, I've been here so long I've forgotten what it is like to be stressed out over a B. Ah those were the days.

Go back and learn from your mistakes and make sure that you understand the material. There is really only 1 "test" that will prevent you from getting into medical school regardless of your grades or gpa. Learn what went wrong on your mid-terms and know it cold thus preventing similar mistakes on the MCAT.

Good luck

Im the opposite, I couldnt get a B in undergrad if I tried (maybe because I didnt study) but now Im rockin out A's like its my job (but I also study like its my job, so..)

haha wait till he gets his first C!

B's are not the end of the world. Learning from your mistakes is essential as a previous post said.

Do you watch Lost, remeber what Locke said, the struggle is natures way of making us stronger.

maybe you should try and take note of how you study and how you take tests.

B's are good for you. They help make hemoglobin.

It's OK to get a C every once in a while too for healthy gums.

Haha my @$$..I already got one C in a course, Ancient Greece. It was the hardest class I have ever taken because it was hard to listen to the Prof. and the material we covered was incredibly boring.

I guess I should not worry a ton about B's..I just want to do well so badly and it just seems like I keep coming up short. I remember material well and I am good at understanding function and whatnot, good example is physiology.

My goal is to start studying better. Im not really sure on good ways to study so I will ask, what is a good way to study for classes such as Chem, Biology, and similar classes?

Thanks all!

P.S. I am not so strong in Math..what type of Math should I know for the MCAT and please be specific (i.e. logarithims--what are they???)

No math on the MCAT other than basic middle school algebra.

Middle School Algebra...This will be a battle for the ages!!!

Eh, I wouldnt play the math off that easily. Your ability to understand and manipulate equations (which yes, is basic algebra, but its not like y=mx+b) is imperative.

But to make light of the math is unfair to the MCRAP. Perhaps not the math itself so much, but the logic behind the equation.

Ok, I dont know how to explain what im trying to say.

As long as you already have taken algebra any MCAT math can be learned with time and the proper approach to fit you.

log functions may take some time to understand but a course is not required to learn it.

proportions, deriving equations, etc. require some logic but with enough exposure it can be learned as well.

If you are a great memorizer and can memorize dozens of equations and their uses, then you need nothing more than basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and equation solving. (lots of students are this type - and it works for them and that's great.)

If, on the other hand, you are not a great memorizer, then you should be able to figure out the equation in a quick fashion. This would entail understanding of the problem, understanding of the basic forces at work in the problem, and the ability to quickly formulate an equation to get your answer. (I'm this kind of student - an understander and applier, not necessarily a memorizer unless absolutely necessary. It works for me, and that's great.)

Whichever type of math student you are doesn't matter if it works for you. Just figure out which type you are so you can start memorizing if necessary.

Ok how is this:

I can use Physics equations just fine, as well as statistics equations like finding the standard deviation and whatnot.
For example:
ss(x)=Ex^2-(Ex)^2/N

does anyone wanna recommend a book for me to learn logs or anything incredibly pertinent..or will I learn these things in classes like Chem and Physics (which by the way, I suck at trig and geo..lol..so physics is not easy for me).

find a practice test and look at it. that will be more helpful then us trying to remember whats on it.

better yet, go post in the MCAT forum

As stated previously, dude you need to seriously chill! What matters is the totallity of the work you did in undergrad. Your application consists of so much more than a individual course or two. You will have Bs. If you were a across the board 4.0 student, you are more than likely a type A gunner who will freak out if you get anyting less than a 35 on the MCAT and is working on your ulcer rigth now. Relax. work on understanding the material and expanding your exposure to to medicine and healthcare. Bs are not the end of your medical application.
