Hey all,

Sorry if I've been posting a lot of new threads, hopefully this will be the last one! Would appreciate your advice on this one, especially from those who have taken the new MCAT.

My exam date is in about 6 weeks. I have not done the AAMC question packs, and I'm having second thoughts about them. Some have said the Q packs test mostly content and are not representative or helpful for the real MCAT. I feel like I have reviewed content thoroughly already and would like to practice other materials, i.e. Khan. But I feel obligated to do the Q packs since they're made by the AAMC. It almost feels like a cardinal sin not to do them.

Any thoughts? What is your opinion on how helpful the Q packs are?

Thanks!

Do highly recommend them, but not obligatory if you already have the AAMC Official Guide questions and the AAMC Practice test.

I would say they are hit or miss, but worth buying overall. The CARS Q packs are great, as the CARS has changed the least of all sections on the new MCAT. I have all my students purchase the CARS Q packs. As for the sciences, fair warning there is no biochemistry, no psychology, no sociology yet. The questions are recycled from older MCATs (though the AAMC has filtered them to include only current testable science). At the end of the day It's still AAMC material, and I would definitely recommend the CARS Q packs as a must have.

The AAMC OG exam and Practice test are a much higher priority but if you feel weak or have not seen a topic in a while, you could pick up the science Q packs, at least to get used to the tone of the MCAT. The Khan academy Qs are also good and there are a lot more of them and the price literally cannot be beat.

Good luck!

Look, I'm not trying I be an a hole or whatever, but these questions seem so silly to me. Think about it...

AAMC, the company that creates the MCAT, has released only so much limited material for the new test. They have hand selected passages and discretes from question banks that they think represent the newest material and you think it isn't important?? jesus man. AAMC >>> than any company. I tackled the AAMC packs first part by part and I got 88-98th % on the actual test. I would recommend it over any thing from any other company.

The logic hasn't changed much, and th packs contain a significant amount of high yield content. Can't beat that.

I also support the question packs over other material. That said, if you have 6 weeks you do not need to do them now. I saved the AAMC practice and question packs until the last week so that I could get into "AAMC mode" (rather than TPR/Kahn/etc).

No one knows the AAMC like the AAMC. If they offer it, I'd use it.

Thanks everyone for your input! @piii , you can see why I hesitated to start this thread; it seems like a no-brainer, but I think everything needs to be considered in its context, especially since many have said that the Q packs are not helpful. But I appreciate your input and I will do the Q packs.
