Okay, so obviously not everyone will become a dentist no matter how hard they try...

I may be one of them. Currently I have a 3.7 GPA, and 3.5 sci GPA (only because of A's in math). No matter how hard I study, it seems that I cannot get anything higher than a B in my science classes... I'm not smart, but I try my best. I know you can't get into dental schools with just B's in your sciences.

I'm almost done with my sophomore year. I think I will still try to apply for dental school for a couple of years, but after a while if I keep getting rejections, then I might have to take another route.

What is a good backup/alternate route from dentistry/PHD health career with the prereq classes that I will have done? Do you know anyone who never got in? What did they decide in doing? Believe me, I study a lot, and I am trying my best.

You still have a whiles to go. Do well on your DATs and you'll be good.

that attitude of giving up before you even it a try will definitely not get you into any dental school.

Take the DAT. See how the scores come out. Seeing that the majority of the examination is based on science, it'll be a good indication of how you'll do in your 1st and 2nd year in dental school.

An overall GPA of 3.7 = 👍
An Science GPA of 3.5 = 👍

You are right on one thing. The admissions like to see you do well in your science courses. However, there are plenty of students getting in with a science less than a 3.5 (although that is at or slightly above the average). You are only a SOPHMORE! Plenty of time to pick it up. Choose your science classes wisely. Don't overload yourself...You know what you can handle...

If you can maintain that GPA you will no problems getting in (assuming your DAT is good🙂)

THERE IS NO ALTERNATE ROUTE! Just buckle down and do the work... If this is what you want to do then do it!

MY STORY (SHort version)

35 credits into Community College --> GPA = 2.0 & Science GPA <2.9 (?)
100 credits later at 4 year university --> GPA = 3.61 & Science GPA 3.42

What changed? My attitude... I started studying like my life depended on it. I did not accept short cuts anymore. I knew that every grade counted and I that I would not accept anything less than an A. Ya, I fell short once or twice but the point is I knew if I wanted it bad enough I could have it....

Now...

I HAVE IT!

👍 -- Its all about attitude and will...

And No not everyone will get in...BUT those that want it bad enough will!

Don't have a plan B. it distract you from plan A. I Studied like i would be screwed if i didn't get in.

maintain this 3.5 / 3.7 combo and you have nothing to worry about - as far as GPA. A few B's is no big deal if this is your average GPA's...

But... if the B's are bugging you think about why you're getting them. Test some tests to learn your learning style and change up your study habbits. Do extra work and go see the prof to make sure you're understanding what is "testible" chapters. Figure out what you need to know and how well from students who have taken the prof/class before.

you sound so pessimistic 🙁
I am confused, you get As in math but you are have having trouble with biology?

Yeh learning to study biology can be annoying sometimes... it takes a while to adjust to studying for class that has easy concepts to grasp but alot of details to store....

And by the way.... 3.7 GPA + 3.5 sGPA are great numbers, if you think you can't get in those, you won't be satisfied even with a solid 3.99

Maybe you should tell us your study habits and we'll give you more meaningful advice.

I agree with those saying to 'stay the course.'

But to answer your question, I would say become a PA or nurse. Waaay less schooling, less stress from a business perspective, and good money.

If you can, while your choosing your courses, balance out a hard, but important health related course, like microbiology and biochemistry, with an easy environmental science course. It still contributes to your GPA obviously and the environmental courses can be a good break from the tough and tedious medical related classes.

You're stats aren't bad. I got in with a 3.3 science GPA, granted I did get some A's in science classes, but not all of them. Science wise I was probably around a B average. Just make sure to pick classes that won't overload you. I knew kids taking TONS of science classes at once, and I'd only be taking 2 or 3. My life was much less stressful, and I ended up coming out on top when it came to grades. Sure they got done with their sciences before me and could relax the last few semesters, but the GPA doesn't really reflect well on them.

Your GPA is phenomenal, don't worry! I have, well let's just say that I have a much worse science GPA than you. Science classes are hard!

Don't forget it's about being the whole package. Being an interesting person will get you a much better chance than 0.1 higher science GPA. Or so I hope.

I was just worried because my 3.5 sci GPA would go down if I kept getting B's in my sciences, since I'm not taking math anymore....

All I can do is try my best I guess

Yikes, you have much to learn. But don't worry, I was confused when I was at your point too. You have really good stats, but if you don't get into dental school that may be a good thing. Find out why you really want to do it and if you are a good people person before you worry about the grades.
