i meant interns who are about to graduate. I have heard from several people that CVS is informing their interns that they will not be hired as pharmacist when they graduate in may 09

I work for CVS and am a P4 student. This past fall they sent out early comittment letters (ECL). My pharmacy supervisor told me that I was receiving 1 of only 2 ECL that were going out in the district I work in.

I do know of 1 student that I had rotations with that works with CVS (different district than mine), that did not receive an ECL. I'm not sure where her district is.

Also, when we had our career fair at school in early January, I heard many students state that the companies were all hiring, just mostly OUTSIDE the metro Atlanta area.

I don't think you will have a problem getting a job, it just may not be WHERE you want to work. But in this economy, I am very thankful to have a job lined up with a very nice salary and I feel like I have job security. That is more than a lot of Americans can say these days.

in the next 3-5 years there will be no shortage up there either. Seems like Southwest Georgia is the place to be for a guaranteed pharmacy job...

Can you please be specific with your location? From what I know, it is company policy to hire all grad interns. However from my understanding, in the next two to three years, they will hire grad interns based on their ratings filled out by a pharmacy supervisor.

Usually, they will hire interns just to take up the market. They however might give you 30 hours instead of 40 in the job commitment letter.

I have so many stories about the couple I was forced to interact with. I'm sure everyone does. How anyone could do that job is beyond me. I'm pretty sure the last one thought he was going to get promoted to Woonsocket years ago and it just never happened.

Heh one time I went to my local 24 hour CVS to get some Coronas and he was ringing up people in the pharmacy. Pretty lol.

Early commitment letters were sent out last November. If you did not sign, yes. . . you will be fired as a grad intern and no, you will not have a job waiting for you. Maybe this is where the confusion is coming from.

Very very well said 👍 Personally, I believe pharmacists are still needed despite this sucky economy. One can even argue that there's still a shortage now and in the years to come. But we have to remember that the shortage/need is not evenly distributed. Some areas are overflown with pharmacists while some could not find anyone willing to work. So as long as you don't insist on working at any specific area and are flexible a bit, you can always get a job. Is pharmacy doom day coming? Maybe, if you don't want to work anywhere else but the store across the street.
