So here is my situation. I am in what i guess you would call a Post Bac or SMP program that gives a masters in Biomedical Science once I am finished. My undergrad science gpa was ~3.2 and am retaking MCAT in august and hoping to do well. In undergrad I was very involved and had many leadership and volunteer positions on campus and in the community as well as shadowing work. This past year as I have worked on my masters program I have not gotten involved in really any leadership/volunteer stuff. Is this going to hurt me when I reapply this year or will my undergrad stuff suffice?

thanks in advance!

Actually, I'm in the exact same boat as you.

I was very active and involved in undergrad, and not so much in my post-bacc this year. Since I finished my post-bacc in May, I have been getting involved with various things slowly. What I was told by my post-bacc prgm was that if you were uber involved as an undergrad, it's not as important to have ECs during your post-bacc. However, if you were not really involved as an undergrad, it is pertinent you get involved now. I hope they're right. If you're really nervous, start doing some activity now that you can write down on your apps (or write about in an update letter). Continue doing it throughout the application cycle, and it'll be something you can touch upon in interviews.

Best wishes!

I don't it will really hurt so long as you already have everything including clinical activities and volunteering and leadership. I mean, most school would know that an SMP is a rigorous courseload and the fact that you got rejected last year despite your undergrad EC indicates that that isn't the problem. Are you applying this year or next year? If you're applying this year, you won't even be able to list any of this stuff on your AMCAS application.

I am also in the same situation. However, I spent the last two years working heavily on my EC's, so I am not worried about "having enough" of them.

However, I do plan to stay involved with some sort of volunteering during the SMP, even if it is just 2-4 hrs/week. It is a nice break from the constant grind of studying.

As for my SMP, I know it is so intense there is no way I would have time to do other stuff, and I am fairly sure adcoms will appreciate that. I am not worrying to much....
