Not matching into psychiatry, interesting article

We need to end Step/level III. Push states to make independent licensure at med school graduation with I, II, and IICS (or whatever they are called these days).

Residency and internship is optional. Considering the rising tide of ARNPs flooding the market and those of PAs, who are now clamoring for independence, we would be better off pursing this.

If society has declared an ARNP shadowing for a few 1/2 days a week constitute accrual of knowledge and experience to have independent practice, than fresh MD/DO graduate is 1500+clinical hours ahead of them and are worthy of the independence.

Just glanced at the NRMP data this year, psychiatry is definitely on the upswing. US MD nonmatch rate is 9%, vs. 11% for derm, 2.2% for rads, 10.5% for gen surg, 4.8% anesthesia, 5.9% for EM. Average Step I score is not included in this batch.
