Any foreign medical school graduates out there that are US residents that just couldn't pass the USMLE part 1 after taking it two times? How hard will it be to get a residency in the states now?

sorry to repost--does anyone know anything about this topic or is it just not pc to discuss?

I'm a FMG who is gearing up for the test this summer and I'm pretty worried about it. I keep consoling myself with the knowledge that a girl from our school had failed twice, but was successful enough during years 3 and 4 that she was given a verbal assurance from a hospital that she had a spot with them if she could just pass the damn thing.

As I understand, she finally passed on the 3rd try, and matched to that program.

I'm pretty sure the program was family med, or maybe an internal med thing but nothing very competitive. Also, our school (BGU-CU in Israel) has a really good reputation for placing students and isn't regarded as the typical "offshore" school - whatever that means. So maybe that partly explains her situation. But the reality is that there's probably a spot out there for you if you can make it through the test and you're a cool person who works really hard on the wards.

Hang in there.

i just got my score for step 1. got a 64. I thought my exam went "ok" and i would at least pass. It is really hitting hard now after a day or so. I am planning to work very hard and give the exam within couple of months again. Will definately pass if not have a decent score. Anyone out there , can tell me if failing first time really affects ur match chances a great deal. I have heard many hospital programs dont even look at ur application if u have taken step 1 more than once. Can someone please enlighten me regarding this? Any info. on this would be greatly appreciated. All of the guys out there. Failing is not the end of the world, i hope to do much better next time around. gud luck to anyyone retaking the steps. Rmbr to stay focused, stay alive, and keep on fighting......
hope springs eternal.
