For one of my jobs, I am NOT checking that they can contact the company. The reason is that my father was the president until the board members wanted a different direction. He now works for their competitor, and takes their business, so they would have absolutely nothing good to say about me if AACOMAS/adcoms decided to call them (yes, they are that vindictive). Should I explain this in the experience description? I'm just wondering if adcoms would be concerned if they saw I would not allow them to contact the company.

No, keep the drama off of your application. Personally I would check the box because I think the odds of them contacting the company are small. If you don't check the box, someone may notice and it could raise some eyebrows if that's they only experience without a check. I wouldn't want anything that raises eyebrows on my app.

Does it make sense if you do "check the box," but dont fill out the supervisor/contact information?

If they call, it won't be for a reference, it will just be to confirm you worked there.

Did you have any coworkers or literally anyone you could get to just state "yep, he worked here and did that for that long"?

Pretty much all of the employees I worked with have since moved on from the company.

But you gave me a good idea. I'll just give a number for one of the family friends who retired from the company. Thanks!

I don't even know why they give you the option if they're going to throw a fit if you don't choose the "preferred" option. Quite ridiculous. In your case, the choice is this: not authorizing contact or leaving the experience out overall. Which would end up hurting you more?

I think this is fine. Again, its not a reference, it is literally just to check if you actually did whatever you are saying you did.

There is also a ridiculously small chance of anyone calling.

If you're worried about it, contact the schools about it. In my case, I accidentally said no to releasing authorization and I asked someone from A.T Stills, and they told me they would contact me about providing them with my supervisors' emails if they needed it.

I've never seen this to be an issue for our applicants or interviewees.
