Hi. I just joined sdn. well my story is, i'm a pharmacy student and i have roughly a 3.1 gpa. i'm planning on taking the mcats next april and apply for the '07-'08 class. what kind of score should i have to get in order to get into d.o. school? i've wanted to go to med school all my life, and i'm not a quitter. i think i have the extracurric's and shadowing. do you know of anyone who tutors the mcat in philly? would it be wise to take the TPR or Kaplan? Sorta lost but don't want to give up hope just yet.

Get around the average and you should be ok. DO schools are reputed to look past the numbers at the whole candidate (holistic admissions? ). Pharmacy student = ? You mean a pharmacy graduate student?

Tutors are not the best way to go unless you are getting very cheap or free help and the person does a nice job. you can take classes or do an at-home study course. Stick to the big MCAT prep companies: AAMC,Examkrackers(EK), The Princeton Review(TPR), Kaplan, and Berkely Review.

start reading in the MCAT forum and do searches on anything that interests you. Your questions are very broad in regards to MCAT studying.

Sorry I don't know about which schools for you to apply.

yeah its an enty from high school program. i come out with a doctor of pharmacy (its an undergrad/grad together). do you think that i should aim for an mcat in the range of a 28-30. i haven't taken a standardized test in years so i'm gonna have to study my butt off. are there any d.o. schools that are easier to get into?

by the way, thanks for your help. i'm glad i found sdn. you all are so nice. 🙂

I think you should aim for as high as you can, but I think 28-30 would be helpful.

I've heard on here that it can be difficult to convey why you're leaving another health care field and trying to go into medicine. You might think of answers for that one for when you're asked.

While they "look past the numbers" they do so after looking AT the numbers. So, the higher your MCAT the better your chances for interviews, for both allo and osteo. I'd say minimum 27, but if you get at least a 25 you should apply. Shoot for that 30! Good luck to ya!!
