Hi everyone,
For the past 7 months, I have been working at a lab at a large medical college on the West Coast. My lab is very small but the PI is well known (molecular biology). I enjoy the subject, but I find the lab work to be boring and I don't feel like I have been learning as much. My PI discussed reviews, publications and etc that she'd be willing to work with me on during interviews, during the time I have been here, she has been MIA. This summer, I will begin an internship in molecular cancer biology. I do not have cancer bio experience but I just feel like I would love it.
I am thinking of switching to a large molecular cancer bio lab at an institution near my home and have even discussed my willingness to work there to the head PI (who is quite an expert in his field)--I met him at a biomedical conference. He said to email him to schedule and interview (yay). if I do get to secure the lab position, I plan on telling my PI that my exposure to cancer bio research has guided my decision to work elsewhere. I feel like I should email the cancer PI asap to schedule that interview before he forgets, but I am worried that I am jumping ship too soon. What should I do? Also, could my current PI hold a grudge against me or anything like that? I don't want to burn bridges...🙁
Thanks
