apparently i'm not allowed to have opinions. so much for the whole "equality" thing that i was getting yelled at for.

but seriously, why was my thread closed? i'm NOT the only person who thinks that, but maybe i'm the only who wouldcome out and say it.

Yes you are. Please go back to your thread, read my reply, and thing about what's wrong with you and your thinking.

Someone needs to spend some time volunteering in the inner-city...

This person is a coward. He wrote me a private message, in which he "accused" me of being a URM. For shame.

I agree that the mod should've given you a reason while locking the thread.

The issue is not that you believe what you believe, but that this issue has been discussed at length every week on this forum and the discussions quickly turn hostile. Your opening post added nothing new to the (recurring) discussion. Certainly the mods should've waited until the thread reached that point of personal attacks and TOS violations before locking it, but whatever. They do what they like whenever they like.

They're going to close this thread too citing [1] not being allowed to open a discussion once its been closed or [2] PMing the mods for the reason rather than starting a thread about it. I think they make up the rules as they go.

What do you or SDN have to gain from such a thread? You aren't even looking for an intelligible conversation on the subject, you were just ranting and looking to start an argument based on your own insecurities.

...and you're definitely not novel in such a thread, maybe you could make an attempt to use the search button to see. *Gosh I'd NEVER want a doctor who can't use a search function on SDN*

I am against affirmative action, but I've noticed that the majority of people that start threads about URM privileges are racists that don't have competitive stats.

Probably. But they should be pissed if a bunch of people with similarly "s h i t t y" stats are getting into medical school because they have a natural tan.

*shrug* my life isn't about SDN or what anyone on here thinks of me. i've posted, what, less than 15 times? and i can still think what i want to, it doesn't matter how rude or whatever people think i am. you're right though, i should have searched first.

ps chairs, i sent you a PM because i couldn't write back on the other thread. for real though, get over yourself. don't try to call me out on something that i haven't ever acted on when you did your whole "bad means justify good ends" thing.

also, you can check mdapps or med schools websites and you'll see what i mean about lower stats if you're an URM. i didn't just pull this out of thin air.

Anyone can just sign up in a public computer, though, in a public library or something, right?

Yes, that's possible; but you would have to make sure that you didn't previously sign into your old account at the same library/public computer.

You could have contacted me directly to ask why the thread was closed, if it wasn't apparent instead of starting a new thread.

The thread you started was not going in a productive direction, and your post was inflammatory. The problem isn't having opinions, the problem is choosing to express them in a way that will do nothing but start a shouting match.

Additionally, as this was hardly the first discussion about URMs in admissions, you could easily have used the search feature to identify any other thread about URMs in the admissions process and posted there.

lol. The AAMC publishes this info, it is no secret.

It was done because a few decades ago URM had less educational opportunities than non-URM.

It is silly to complain. 50 years ago do you think URM were complaining that not 1 person could get into top Med Schools? As in 0%.

Flashback... 70 years ago. You are born black or hispanic in America, you want to be a doctor, you have pretty much 0 chance.

Flash forward to today... now you are a Non-URM and you have to beat all the other non URMs to get into medical school.

lol, so what.

Who had it worse? The guy with 0% chance or you who has to earn it?

Tiger Woods had to earn his way into golf, he had to beat other people.

Stop complaining and beat the rest of the non URMs. What do you want, to get in because you are average just because an average URM applicant got in? Go to work son.

Stop being average and get better.

Why do medical schools take skin color into account at all? How stupid.
