Hi everyone.

I, like many others have bought a subscription to USMLE World for Step 2 studying. The problem is that while I have test questions open, the USMLE World program does not let me minimize the window to take any notes in another program (Word or Excel). I surely can't be the only one with this problem , so what have others done to get around this?

Since it must be mentioned, my note-taking does not entail copying and/or pasting questions, or breaking any rules of use of USMLE World.

Thanks

either press the pause button (which would take forever)...

or just do the tests on tutor mode and write your notes in First Aid...I find that UsmleWorld adds a lot to my FA...its getting fat.

good luck! 😀

I'm using two monitors. This allows me to have the UW question window open in one and an internet page in another (if I want to look up stuff). If you were to do this, you could type notes as well in Word/Excel. Setback? This requires you have another monitor.

Thanks for the tip. This was my last resort if nobody else had any solutions for a work-around.

Why not just take notes while reviewing incorrect answers???

The problem is still the same. While viewing incorrect answers the window with USMLE World running still will not minimize so I can not access a word processing program to make notes.

Press ALT+TAB to switch to Word/Excel. You won't be able to see USMLE World at the same time, but you can type your notes. Then press ALT+TAB to switch back.

ALT+TAB does not maximize the word/excel window over top of the USMLE World window unfortunately, and I had already tried that to no avail.

But thanks to your suggestion I realized that if you press ALT+TAB and select Excel/Word, you are able to type in either of those programs, but you are not able to see what you are typing (since USMLE World stays maximized)...so it's not perfect but it really helps. Thanks a lot

I repeat. . .two monitors! 😀 LOL I'm doing that. . .right now! I have USMLEWorld open right now in my other one.

too bad you all don't have a mac. its super easy to hide UW and type on word. suckas!
Not the easiest, cheapest solution, but... I use Dragon Naturally Speaking Medical to dictate UW notes into a recorder, then plug it in after I am finished, and voila! All of your notes come streaming out before your eyes. 😍
