This might be a dumb/basic question, but what kind of system do you use to keep track of all the information for your patient(s) during, say, inpatient services during M3? A binder? Spiral notebook? I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what kind of set up will work for me. Carrying around a binder seems cumbersome, but it allows me to add in pages as I need, which I can't do with a bound notebook. Or are there entirely different ways in which you guys go about this?

Thanks!

Do you know how many patients you'd be carrying? Shouldn't be too many where you would need a super fancy "system" but I've seen this site thrown around on here quite a bit that has various forms/rounding sheets you can download and print out.

I basically just kept the intial H&P and then maybe my last 1 or 2 progress notes with me for my patients, just folded and in my pocket. Also kept a patient census list for the team and used that to jott down notes during rounds.... plans for my pts, topics we discussed, questions I was pimped on or asked to look up, etc....

Wasn't anything fancy but worked for me. And it made sure I always had he latest progress note in case my intern or resident needed a copy.

That's pretty much what I did as well. When I first started third year I was more gung-ho about having everything neat and organized. After a while I just wanted to have it in case I was asked and I found keeping that day's and the previous day's notes were usually sufficient for the 5-6 patients I would have.
