Is the notochord part of the ectoderm or mesoderm? If the notochord turns into the spinal cord later, then it should be part of the ectoderm, right?

is there a reason for this? Doesn't the notochord turn into the spinal cord?

Notocord induces the formation of the spinal cord from the ectoderm. Notocord itself comes from the mesoderm.

Can't wait till the new season starts 🙂

Like every1 said notochord is from mesoderm. Notochord induces the formation of spinal cord but spinal cord itself is formed from neural tube which arises from the ectoderm.

notochord gives rise to the vertebrate backbone or spinal chord backbone, it is bone so it is mesoderm...nerve cord or neural tube arises from the ectoderm and thus develops into the CNS (central nervous system). hope that helps

CNS itself includes brain + spinal cord, so yes neural tube gives rise to both brain and spinal cord. Notochord doesn't form spinal cord, it just helps neural tube in spinal cord formation.

In addition to the above posts, the notochord turns into the vertebrate in HIGHER chordates while in LOWER chordates, the notochord is the basis of support.

Is this correct, molars along with things like horns go with ectoderm?
