For an early interview at nova (8:30 am - 1 pm), is a 4:15 pm flight departure out of fort lauderdale feasable? We'll be going straight to the airport after the interview, just have to drop off the rental car (at the airport.)

For those that have had the am interview, did you get out on time, or maybe even early?

I have one as well within the next 2 weeks.. would like to know this as well.. will only be making a one day trip.

I'll give my opinion since I have been to that airport many times to pick up friends and live 20 minutes away in Miami.

I would definately try to get a later flight to be safe. There is *always* traffic in Fort Lauderdale and rush hour is from 6-10 in the morning and 2-8 in the afternoon....aka all the time. Also, there are always accidents in South Florida so who knows what could happen that day.

So, factoring in the time for security and all the other fun stuff that can happen at an airport plus the general traffic situation, I would encourage you to get a later one. I'm sure you could make it to the 4:15 flight...but my experiences down here have taught me to add 3 hours to everything

Also missed your last question. I interviewed in October and everything went pretty much according to schedule. I was with 5 other students, and there were two "teams" of interviewers. So from 8:30-11 ish they cycle through three people per team, so it can be really fast or slow. Then you meet with Dr. B (great guy) to discuss more about Nova and eat some pizza. The tour comes last...and you are outta there by around 1!

Thanks for the replies. Do the interviews start right away at 8:30 or closer to 9:00? If you go first, (or last) what do you do for the other two hours? My mother is coming along, should she wait at the hotel and just join up with us at 11 for the tour?

That should be plenty of time to get from the school to the airport, imo, especially if you are driving yourself. I had the afternoon interview, which started late, and interviewed second, though that only took about 15 minutes. Then I had the exit interview and I was on my way. I also took a cab (wait time). I believe I left the school around 3:30 for my 5:30 PM flight. I've found that security and going through the gate is not bad in Ft. Lauderdale; I sat at the gate for about an hour, which may or may not be enough of a buffer time for you. With that said, there may be unexpected delays/accidents, and if you'd rather not leave things up to chance, then you should change the time. Otherwise, that should be enough time to make your flight. Good luck 🙂

I'm thinking that even if I give myself an entire hour to get to the airport, I'll be there at 2:00. Add 30 min to drop of rental car and shuttle to terminal and I'm still there at 2:30. Then, even if I'm stuck in security for an entire hour, I'm at the gate by 3:30, 45 min before my flight.

Lauderdale is a "relatively" small airport, isn't it?

I think it's possible to fly out at 4:30pm. I fly home all the time and usually take the 6:30pm flight after my 5:00pm class. From NOVA to FLL airport is about 15 minutes drive and if you don't have a lot of stuff to check in then you'll be ok. Also, one recommendation for the interview: dress professionally, I mean suit it up. NOVA requires all students to be in their scrubs (same color) or professional clothes at all time and they are very serious about it too. Good luck at your interview..

I had my interview at 1030, got lost and was late.
and fran is so nice, they dont even care, so try to be on time, but if youre not, its not a big deal.

i think 430 is more than enough time. for a 1030 interview, i was done by 2. then again i only interviewed with one other person that day so it went by a lot quicker than it would have if you go in a big group.

There is always traffic on that freeway to the airport, but i think 430 is more than enough time to get there.
