I've heard some of the people on here saying that NOVA is totally full and that they are only waitlisting. Is that true? I submitted my application to them a long time ago, but only just took the OAT on Friday. They wanted my scores before asking me for an interview, and now I am wondering if I waited too long to take the OAT and am at risk of not being accepted.

My stats:

GPA: 3.65 overall / 3.85 science
OAT: 340 TS / 350 AA
2 years experience working for optometrist
LOR's from a former NOVA teacher and a NOVA grad
Florida resident

I feel like my stats should definitely be good enough to be accepted, but if the class is full I am concerned. Especially because I need to withdraw my acceptance from another school by June if I want to attend NOVA.

Anyone have any definitive information? What do you guys think? Thanks!

Why so late? Med school rejection? Don't know if you'll be happy in optometry if this is the case. If not then, yes the classes are mostly full :/ but people give up their spots all the time so you stand a decent chance of getting in.

if they want your official scores...it takes 2 weeks to process and send...then if they're filled with interviews for the next few months...it's already june. I would have taken the OAT much much sooner, I mean it's practically APRIL! Did you not apply to any other schools?

I waited on taking the OAT because I had work and a full semester in the Fall, and I hadn't even finished the pre-requisites yet. I am still in Physics 2 right now. I see now that I probably could have gotten by getting a lower score on the OAT and applying earlier, but I figured that NOVA would have spots available until their deadline.

It's probably best just to call them and ask. They will likely be honest with you about the current state of admissions and then you know that what you're being told is correct! You can always give a fake name if you feel uncomfortable about it.

If you want definitive information, call Nova and ask.

I don't know for sure, but remember that schools clearly state that admissions is rolling, so it is believable that this close to the application deadline, the class is full. What other school were you accepted to?

Don't use a fake name...

Call and ask them directly. Tell then why you're concerned and see if they have spots left. It is really late, but if you have to wait you'll be fine next cycle.

in mid february i had a chance to talk to dr. bacigalupi from nova and he said that the class was already full but he expected 7-10 people to give up their seats to go to other schools. i know a few people who have interviewed since then so maybe they're just getting on the wait list. hope that helps

Im going to Nova in the fall and I know they make you give $250 2 weeks after acceptance to hold your spot in the class. Then $750 is required to matriculate by april 1 (? i think, i paid mine a while ago) but some people may be in the first category, where they may be accepted and paid that holding fee, but not "IN THE CLASS" as in butt in seat for the fall.

I was accepted on March 15th, my interview day was march 9th (I applied in february so I applied late too)

Good luck 🙂

Nothing amazing:

OAT TS: 310, AA: 330
GPA: 3.0

But a lot of extracurriculars/leadership - maybe that helped? 🙂

Around April, there would be a good amount of spots opening up due to the second deposit. I will probably be giving up my spot as well. You still have a great chance. 🙂 Good Luck!

No, more like people realizing its not worth 200k of debt to make 95k (less if you plan to work in south florida or california). 200k + 200k interest = 400k what you pay back if you are the average student with average pay plan. So that'd be like 15-25 years? (because ~40% of your income will get taxed)
