Nova?
Started by DentistNikki
Do you mean who has been accepted and is going?
Congrats on your decision! You'll absolutely love it here. Your first assignment as a Nova dental student is to start collecting teeth.
Store your collected teeth in a sealable jar and in one part chlorine and 10 water solution for 2-3 weeks and then it's safe to transfer them in 1:1 listerine and water solution.
The more the better. You'll need these teeth for the following courses/exams:
1) Dental Anatomy lab (1st year)
2) Operative/Restorative lab (1st year)
3) Endo lab (2nd year)
4) competency exams (4th year)
5) licensure board exams (4th year)
Got it?
Any other questions, feel free to give me a call or email me or ask it here.

This should not be a problem. My dentist will be more than happy to supply me with some teeth. Do you know approximately how many I should collect?
I am excited about the school and I cant wait to start.
Anyone else going to Nova next year?

The more teeth you collect, the better!!!
You should collect as many as you can.
Whether the teeth have restoration on/in them or not, collect them. No need for 3rd molars.
AS MUCH AS YOU CAN GET. Just leave a jar in several dental offices, include at least one jar in an OMS office.

I interviewed last week I find out in 3 or 4 weeks.
Thanks for the advice.

Yup! One part bleach to 10 parts water.
I just want to vent and share my pain with you Nova people..
Of all the schools I visited I liked Nova the best. I loved the city/weather. I loved the facility. I liked the cirriculum. I liked the price (compared to other privates). I liked the students and judging from my interview, I liked the faculty. The only thing holding me back is moving across the country.
I currently live in Los Angeles and have my family, friends, and most importantly, my fiancee here. Since she attends law school in Orange county there is no way she can move with me. I really cant see myself without her in my life. I know that if I move to FL, we wont see each other besides a few weeks in the summer and during the holiday season.
My alternative is go to UNLV, which is only 3 hours away from OC by car and 20 minutes by place. Going to LV I think I will be able to take the $60 r/t flight once every few weeks, or drive somtimes on friday night. and although I liked UNLV too, there was something magical about Nova. Its been really bugging me.
I am sitting here staring at this acceptance letter from Nova that expires on Feb 23. Arrrgg!! This is really tough for me! Help!

Hey Shawn,
That was a very sweet post. It's a tough decision but it seems like you already made up your mind: UNLV. If you truly love her and are possibly thinking that you may want her to be in your life four years from now then you should choose something closer to her. But if you are willing to take a chance that you probably will not stay together after a long term relat. then I don't know what to say. If you love her enough then why ruin it?
Good Luck.

Shawn,
Stay close to your girl, you can always move to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida AFTER dental school. I wouldn't move that far away from my fiancee, but that's me.
You say that there is "something magical about NOVA"... well I'm sure we would agree that there is something MORE magical about your girl. I say stay near her. Decisions, decisions...
Bus.
Shawn:
Man, you never told me that you were engaged! As much as I like to have you as one of my "little D1s" next year, you should stay close to your fiance. It was nice meeting you and hanging out with you during your interview visit.
No matter where you go, you'll be trained to be a dentist. UNLV is a great school! Good luck.

How much longer does she have in law school?
I was in the same boat and went to a school far away from my family and Fiancee. She is at Nova and will be finished at the end of this Sept. Yeah it can be hard, but what is one year apart when you have the rest of your life together? I really didn't like the other schools I was accepted too, so I went someplace I would be happy for four years. We see each other once or twice a month...lots of air deals out there, although its usualy only for the weekends.
If she has a year or so left...go to Nova if thats what you want. If its 2+ years, then i would probably go to UNLV.
