Did anyone receive an email about this survey?
It was in my inbox the morning after the deadline. You know it asks all about how you made your rank list, what factors we considered. I assumed we all received it....I'd be interested to know if it was randomly sent out or not.
i got the survey the day after the ROL deadline too..
in the email its says "The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is asking all applicants in the 2008 Main Residency Match to complete a brief survey. "
it says 'all'... how can that be random??
Well, then that seems a little scary. I have a certified ROL, and I'm 100% sure of that, but I definitely did NOT get that email. And I check my junk email daily, too. Way to freak us out, NRMP.
hey.. sorry for scaring you... 😳
maybe there are other people who didn't get it...
have you been getting any email from them? Maybe your account is blocking them or is entered incorrectly... 🙁
I got the survey.
Yeah, I got it too... But don't freak out jendizzle, I'm pretty sure not getting it will not affect your match whatsoever.
I got this from another forum. This is the supposed reply of the NRMP to an applicant who didn't get the survey email (authenticity not verified) -
"The survey was sent to EVERYONE who certified a rank order list. The survey is completely independent of the match. In fact, the match has not yet been run.
They may want to check to see if the email was caught in their spam filters.

I'm positive it doesn't mean anything if you didn't get the survey, but my reaction when I saw this was - WHAT?! IT HASN'T BEEN RUN?!!!?
Sorry, my match nerves are not just frazzled, they're deep-fried.
I haven't gotten a response yet!! I can guarantee it was not caught by my spam filters. I check that every time I check my regular mail. ANNOYING!!
It's not that I'm worried I won't match because I didn't fill out the survey. I KNOW my ROL was certified and everything, they sent me the confirmation. I just worry that it got lost in the system or something, and now they don't have it, so I didn't get that survey. Stupid, I know, you don't have to tell me that. But it's a high-stress time, and the NRMP is just making it worse 😡
I just got another email from NRMP about the survey. It states:
"This is the first reminder from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) requesting all certified applicants in the 2008 Main Residency Match to complete a survey. Your responses to 3 questions (5 minutes to complete) will help shed light on the factors that influence how applicants construct their rank order lists. These data will allow the NRMP to better inform applicants about successful matching strategies and will guide the development of future applicant resources such as Charting Outcomes in the Match .
Participation in this survey is voluntary. Choosing not to respond will not affect your match results in any way. The confidentiality of your responses will be ensured at all times.
NRMP Applicant Survey . This link has been assigned to your AAMC ID. Please do not share this link with other applicants. "
The weird part is that they still do not give the link to the survey. Am I missing something? Honestly, given that this is not mandatory, I don't really care.
below that message there is, "Please use the following link to complete the survey by 10:00 p.m. March 16, 2008:", this is followed by a hyperlinked text.
it only takes a few minutes of your time and if it helps to refine the match process, why not? If you are like me, you are probably loafing around anyway.
All that I posted in my post was what the email contained and so I don't have any link.

QUESTION IS,,,,,IS IT TRUE ? ANY INPUTS ?
That's crap. I would kick you off this forum myself if I could. 👎
This is getting stupid, and the problem has been solved (even though I wasn't the OP). Can we close this thread already?
Thanks for all your replies.
We can close it anytime.
It served it's purpose.
I'm the OP.
On the subject of the survey, one of the questions was like "Did you rank programs that you didn't interview at?" or something along those lines (I can't look at the questions again after having submitted it). My question is do people do this? Are they ranking programs that they got rejected from on the off chance that there's some one in a billion clerical error? Or is it asking if people are ranking programs that they were offered interviews at but declined to attend, but ranked the program anyway? (Which brings up more questions of why someone would do this).

If you look at the Charting Outcomes in the Match document, with regards to length of rank list, the chance of matching typically gets better and better with longer rank lists. However, using IM and Surgery as a typical example, FMG's with greater than 16 on the rank list usually have a worse percentage than FMG's with 15 or 14.
This led me to believe that there may be some applicants, particularly FMG's who are getting offered say 2 interviews, but ranking 30 programs either due to confusion about how the match works, or as mentioned, hoping for a program to rank people they didn't interview either on purpose or by accident.
I don't know if this logic makes sense to anybody else, but otherwise I don't know why you could be getting greater than 16 interviews, yet still not matching. It could be terrible interviewers, but shouldn't there be the same percentage of them throughout?
