NRMP Applicant Survey

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I received this email but it did not have a link that gets you to the survey or information on what the survey is all about.

It was in my inbox the morning after the deadline. You know it asks all about how you made your rank list, what factors we considered. I assumed we all received it....I'd be interested to know if it was randomly sent out or not.

Weird!! I didn't get a survey like that. I got the AAMC graduate questionnaire and that other one, but nothing about how I made my rank list. Guess it's random?

i got the survey the day after the ROL deadline too..
in the email its says "The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is asking all applicants in the 2008 Main Residency Match to complete a brief survey. "

it says 'all'... how can that be random??

Well, then that seems a little scary. I have a certified ROL, and I'm 100% sure of that, but I definitely did NOT get that email. And I check my junk email daily, too. Way to freak us out, NRMP.

hey.. sorry for scaring you... 😳
maybe there are other people who didn't get it...

No, no, it's ok!! I'm more angry with the NRMP for that. They should know that we're very on edge!! Either way, I think I'll email them and ask what it's all about. OCD 😀

have you been getting any email from them? Maybe your account is blocking them or is entered incorrectly... 🙁
I got the survey.

I got the survey.

Yeah, I've gotten a few emails from them. When I registered, when I certified, and I think one other random one awhile ago....

I got the survey the next day of the ranking deadline.

Yeah, I got it too... But don't freak out jendizzle, I'm pretty sure not getting it will not affect your match whatsoever.

It better not!! I'll let you know that the "official" NRMP answer to my question is when they respond....(if they ever do!!)

I didn't get it but then again I never hit that safe option when I got my certified ROL email. So I guess my email just detected it as spam and filtered.

There is a lot of fuzz going over on other forums about this.....Who knows......

I got this from another forum. This is the supposed reply of the NRMP to an applicant who didn't get the survey email (authenticity not verified) -

"The survey was sent to EVERYONE who certified a rank order list. The survey is completely independent of the match. In fact, the match has not yet been run.

They may want to check to see if the email was caught in their spam filters.

I'm positive it doesn't mean anything if you didn't get the survey, but my reaction when I saw this was - WHAT?! IT HASN'T BEEN RUN?!!!?

Sorry, my match nerves are not just frazzled, they're deep-fried.

I haven't gotten a response yet!! I can guarantee it was not caught by my spam filters. I check that every time I check my regular mail. ANNOYING!!

It's not that I'm worried I won't match because I didn't fill out the survey. I KNOW my ROL was certified and everything, they sent me the confirmation. I just worry that it got lost in the system or something, and now they don't have it, so I didn't get that survey. Stupid, I know, you don't have to tell me that. But it's a high-stress time, and the NRMP is just making it worse 😡

I got a reminder email today telling me to do it.

"This is the first reminder from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) requesting all certified applicants in the 2008 Main Residency Match to complete a survey."

They said they had 8500 kids that already had responded

BTW when they say it's 3 questions it's more like 3 questions with 10 questions within those 3 questions.

don't worry about it too much.. the survey is voluntary.. so u not getting the mail, should be just like you not filling out the survey...

The anxiety in this thread is palpable...therefore, i will try to change the subject and take everyone to a different place... instead of stressing, going to get a beer!

The best beers at this time of year are springy beers where it is warm, or deep winter beers where it is still cold.

Speaking of beer...everyone know the monday of match week (Yes or No day) is St. Patty's Day? :luck::luck::luck::luck:

:hijacked:

Just talked with the NRMP about this survey thing, the representative told me that THEY SEND THIS TO EVERYONE, if you don't get it probably your email account filtered as it is detected as SPAM. If you have a CERTIFIED ROL (green letters) you have nothing to worry about. The representative even told me that you can ask anyone who got it to give you the link of the survey and you can fill it out. It is no big deal wether you got it or not.....BTW they have gotten quite a few calls about the same issue....no worries everyone.....Carry on with the regular stress level.......

It just annoys me, because it would be impossible for my spam filter to catch it without me knowing. Plus, I added that email address as safe long ago, anyway.

Anyone care to give me the link? I'm dying to know what this damn survey that has everyone so worked up over is about 😀

I just got another email from NRMP about the survey. It states:

"This is the first reminder from the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) requesting all certified applicants in the 2008 Main Residency Match to complete a survey. Your responses to 3 questions (5 minutes to complete) will help shed light on the factors that influence how applicants construct their rank order lists. These data will allow the NRMP to better inform applicants about successful matching strategies and will guide the development of future applicant resources such as Charting Outcomes in the Match .
Participation in this survey is voluntary. Choosing not to respond will not affect your match results in any way. The confidentiality of your responses will be ensured at all times.
NRMP Applicant Survey . This link has been assigned to your AAMC ID. Please do not share this link with other applicants. "

The weird part is that they still do not give the link to the survey. Am I missing something? Honestly, given that this is not mandatory, I don't really care.

below that message there is, "Please use the following link to complete the survey by 10:00 p.m. March 16, 2008:", this is followed by a hyperlinked text.

it only takes a few minutes of your time and if it helps to refine the match process, why not? If you are like me, you are probably loafing around anyway :meanie:.

All that I posted in my post was what the email contained and so I don't have any link.

"NRMP Applicant Survey ."--- this should be the link to the survey...

"This link has been assigned to your AAMC ID. Please do not share this link with other applicants."---- i dont have this in the email i got....

Final verdict: got a response today that says Hotmail seems to be blocking the survey emails. They've gotten a lot of complaints about not receiving the survey, and the common thread is that they're all Hotmail users. They don't go to junk mail, they just disappear, even though we've received NRMP emails before!!

Relief 😎

THIS IS WHAT A MEMBER OF USMLEFORUM BY THE NAME AKA HAD TO SAY
"""""""""* Congratulation to everyone who got the Survey!
#277477 aka - 03/05/08 16:08 I just got inside information, that those who got the survey are those that actually matched. Why would they send it those that didn't match? It don't make sense, as they are gathering data to see why those taking part in it actually matched and how many they do expect to match in coming years and also what they have to do to improve the match status. If you have a better argument, bring it up and lets hear it. Stop feeling happy if you didn't get it. Good luck to you all...

QUESTION IS,,,,,IS IT TRUE ? ANY INPUTS ?

That's crap. I would kick you off this forum myself if I could. 👎

This is getting stupid, and the problem has been solved (even though I wasn't the OP). Can we close this thread already?

Thanks for all your replies.
We can close it anytime.
It served it's purpose.

Just thought I'd mention that I have a yahoo email account and I found the email hidden in my bulk email folder from Feb. 27th. Good luck to all in the match.😀

On the subject of the survey, one of the questions was like "Did you rank programs that you didn't interview at?" or something along those lines (I can't look at the questions again after having submitted it). My question is do people do this? Are they ranking programs that they got rejected from on the off chance that there's some one in a billion clerical error? Or is it asking if people are ranking programs that they were offered interviews at but declined to attend, but ranked the program anyway? (Which brings up more questions of why someone would do this).

Yes, I ranked a program last that I declined an interview at. I did this on the off chance that they would rank at the bottom of their list those candidates that they invited but declined, thinking matching them by chance would be better than not filling. Of course this borders on impossible, but why not? Not like it costs anything.

If you look at the Charting Outcomes in the Match document, with regards to length of rank list, the chance of matching typically gets better and better with longer rank lists. However, using IM and Surgery as a typical example, FMG's with greater than 16 on the rank list usually have a worse percentage than FMG's with 15 or 14.

This led me to believe that there may be some applicants, particularly FMG's who are getting offered say 2 interviews, but ranking 30 programs either due to confusion about how the match works, or as mentioned, hoping for a program to rank people they didn't interview either on purpose or by accident.

I don't know if this logic makes sense to anybody else, but otherwise I don't know why you could be getting greater than 16 interviews, yet still not matching. It could be terrible interviewers, but shouldn't there be the same percentage of them throughout?

No I am predicting there are still folks out there who think that if they rank as many places as they can even though they didnt interview at them then they will match there. The phenomenon is still out there. Also people are scared that if they dont rank a place they might not get the scramble list.
