I was just registering for the Match (by the way, don't forget to do that) and I stumbled across the specialty data that was just released on the 15th. In case you haven't seen it and would like to know how the Cardiology Match went last year, here's the link:

I think someone posted this in a post a while ago, but 80% of US medical grads applying to Cards matched last year; the average number of programs ranked by US medical grads was 7.26. Those pieces of data were somewhat reassuring to me... I didn't do the math for the FMGs...but as you guys know already, it's not nearly as easy of a ride.

Anyway, hope all of you are starting to end this horribly long and drawn-out process. I just finished today 😀

Now to rank these programs... :scared:

The 80% match doesn't surprise me too much. The overall match rate is somewhat diluted by a large number of IMG applicants, so AMGs actually have a pretty good shot.

I am surprised that the average number of programs ranked is only around 7. I won't be confident with ranking only that many.

I don't see anywhere where it says 80% of US medical grads matched into cards. I see that 80% of US medical grads across all medical specialties matched...that includes all subspecialties, not just cards. I would assume it's lower in cards and GI, higher in some other areas, so that it evens out.

from the numbers on page 5. American grads had these percentage match rates.

for Cardio 438/550 = 79.6%
For GI 230/391. = 72%
For Pulm-CC 182/206 = 88%
