I signed up for the NRMP in December but wasn't sure if I had missed anything. Does signing up NRMP mean that I will be able to rank programs and that programs will be able to rank me? Am I supposed to update something (on ERAS or somewhere) after I have registered for NRMP by paying their fees? Is there a applicant number or identification that I receive after registering to access the match list? Is it this simple?

It is that simple - NRMP makes you register well ahead of time, but you can't start ranking until january or so. As long as you got the confirmatory email and your account (credit card) has been billed, you're all set. You don't have to tell ERAS - ERAS is for application purposes. NRMP is for matching.

If I remember right when you register you get all the info about access numbers, ID#, etc.

But it is simple. Surprising that it would be, but it is.
