Sorry if this is late but wondering what the relationship is between NRMP and ERAS? Do I have to register for NRMP to start getting interview invites? Do they care? Thanks in advance.

It's two sides of the same coin:
Register with ERAS to apply to programs
Register with NRMP to participate in the Match

Both are essential, but separate. Most (but not all) applicants register for NRMP before they apply (there is a question on the ERAS common application form as to whether you've registered for the Match)

You do not need to register with NRMP for interview invites.

You will need to register with NRMP to actually match into a program, but that's later on in the season. And you'll need to be registered with NRMP if you get any interviews (and hence want to rank them), or if you get no interviews and want to participate in SOAP.

So, either way, spend the $60 and register with NRMP.
