Some one please help.

Standard student budget set by NSU (DO program) 2005/2006 was $49921. This includes Room and Board = $10431, Miscellaneous = 1800, Transportation = $2540. The rest is tution, fees and books etc. We are talking about a school in Ft Lauderdale. The rents run about $900 to $1050 in safe areas. The cost of rent, rental insurance, utalities and food is going to be much beyond the budgeted $1223 by NSU.

Will NSU allow me to take loans more than the budgeted amount? If not what can be done? How do the NSU students who do not want to share an apartment survive in this kind of budget? HELP,HELP..........

I think schools will only certify loans up to the amount given in the budget. You might have to look at an uncertified/unsecured private educational loan. Someone else want to chime in?

Hi, I'm graduating in two months and I can tell you that financial aid at our school is an absolute nightmare. Our entire class has been fighting with them since we were all accepted.... that said, they HAVE gotten better, but always always always double check everything with them at least twice and re-check about a week before disbursements....they always manage to screw something up.

Okay - about living in Fort Lauderdale on a budget - I had several friends that had one bedroom apts near school, some of them had some money saved, some had help from parents, some just didn't eat out a lot, but it CAN be done - you just have to make a budget and stick to it. The housing prices are going way up and they're changing a lot of the apartments near school into condos (which really sucks - cuz I lived across the street the first two years and now that's not an option for you guys). If you go further out into Plantation and north or south of school, it gets a little cheaper, you just have to deal with traffic and parking on campus (Free but busy). Um... other than that... if you want to PM me, feel free. Best of luck ! 😀

i have the same concerns as you, babloo. i am going to be a D1 this year and im in the process of looking for an apartment. i just hope that they increase the room and board amount in the 2006/7 budget, which i dont believe is available yet.

the only conclusion that ive come to is that ill have to live with 2 other roommates to make rent affordable enough to support my voracious appetite. having roommates should be fun anyway.

Do you know of any 4bed / 4 bathroom placese for rent? Basically any apartments designed for students? All I saw were condo conversions(used condos) and expensive places to rent.

Archstone Palm Trace Landings has 4/3's, but I doubt there are any available. I've only looked at places immediately surrounding Nova, so that's as far as I can help you.

The numbers you are listing must be the number for in-state. As an out of state resident, I know I got more than that. I belive it was more along the lines of 56k, and I heard we are getting a raise next year (I think it goes up every year some).
