I have a bit of a dilemma. I emailed the school about a month ago and wanted to see if I could get a tour of the school while I am on vacation in South Florida. Dr. Chaffin emailed back saying that based on my application they would like to invite me for an interview. I confirmed the date (this Friday) with Dr. Chaffin and he said he would have someone send me an interview packet. I have not recieved it, so I don't know where to go (directions), etc. I emailed the school twice in 3 days and called and left 2 messages. No one has gotten back to me at all. I finally spoke to someone at admissions and she said she would fax me the information "in 30 minutes"-this was at 10 AM. Still nothing. I leave tomorrow morning!! I am beginning to wonder if they are even expecting me. What should I do? I hate to call again.

I would call again, just to make sure of things. (especially after 30 minutes had passed)

Just to let you know Dr. Chaffin just left this week to go to a new job so that may be why things are a little messy. I know the groups typically meet at 8:45 the day of the interviews and interviews are early in the morning.

Hopefully this is all mute and you got though today.

Thanks Robz. No, I haven't gotten through. I'll just call on Thursday morning when I get down there, I guess. I am sure that they are super busy.

np....

I hope everything works out for you.

Good luck in your interview! 🙂

actresstodoc, I hope that going to the interview isn't out of town for you. these schools should really do a better job at comunicating to the applicants. I would hate for you to go all the way there and they not be expecting you or have your interview session prepared. good luck!! 👍

It is out of town. I am from Montreal. I was planning on going down anyway for a little sunshine. Still, it would not be good if I showed up and they had not expected me.

if you are arriving there before your interview day, and still haven't received the info or spoken on the phone with them you could go to the school the day before and stop by admissions office. i'm sure they would be able to help you out. Hope you get your info before leaving, but though this might help.

actresstodoc, you need to call and see if you can talk with someone in charge of things, maybe not the secretary. I mean they said they wanted you to come in for an interview so why wouldn't they be expecting you? just try to get it staightened out, I would hate for you to miss an opportunity because of communication problems!! goodluck.

I had a similar situation. I had an interview scheduled on a Monday and couldn't make it, so they told me to come in the Friday before and that a confirmation email, letter would follow. I waited a week and nothing... so, I called and left a message, sent an email. Finally, I got an email saying they didn't know what I was talking about but would make a change in the schedule. So, the day before my Friday interview, I flew in. I show up Friday morning (in a group of 11). The admissions people scuffle around and say "let's take roll." My name is not called and so I have to try and explain. I get home Saturday and there is a message from NSU (from Thursday afternoon) asking will I be coming on Friday or Monday. I doubt it was a big enough screw up to keep me from being accepted but there was nothing I could do about it. It did give me a less than pleasant opinion of the school. I realize they are going through a staff change, but I don't think that is an excuse.

dude or dudette,
If I was you I would not judge a school on behalf of their admission staff. Specifically people who do scheduling of interviews or administrative staffing such as secretaries. They really do not have that much to do with your medical education. In fact, I doubt that once you begin your education that you will interact with the interview schedulers that much thereafter.

You are exactly right, they do have very little to do with the actual medical education. I realize that. It is important however, to try and show excellence in every aspect of your school (something that is impossible given that a school is composed of humans).
