NSU is a tablet pc worth the money?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
out of a class of 240... i think i've seen 1 maybe 2 using a tablet. I don't think its worth it at all. We get all of our notes in notepackets. We don't get powerpoints sent to us. In fact, most text books aren't even worth buying. A pen, highlighter, and colored pencils are all you need.

No offense, but doesn't really sound like you are being prepared at all for a career in cutting edge or even modern medicine............boards are computer based, charting is becoming computer based universally, radiology films are usually computer based, all the up to date medical journals and such are online and computer based.

because buying a tablet pc = makes you cutting edge 🙄

This just in!! NSU is downgrading lecture notes to a box of dirt and a stick!!

this year we'll be using the bartering system, so they say.

How many beads and shells do these so called "pee-cees" cost?

PS: I think M2s get more technological doodads like recorded lectures and stuff. M1s (correct me if I am wrong) have their lectures in the auditorium that isn't as advanced.

Here in Kirksville we only trade in bushel's of wheat

then you guys could give us a couple of pointers. lol

If most of your lectures are in powerpoint format, then getting a tablet pc might be a wise idea since it is a lot easier to draw pictures/arrows directly on the slides if you are using a pen instead of a mouse.

Check with your school's IT department as well; Ours has a license with an academic supplier where students can get copies of OneNote 2007 for only $20

So you're saying just because we actually use paper and pens still we're not going to be prepared for a career in cutting edge medicine? Haha, thats the funniest thing I've heard all week... I think you've seen too many DeVry commercials man. And just because we write on paper, that means we don't have a fully wireless campus, know how to search Pub-med or know how to use PDA's?? I guess having a "Harvey" cardiac patient simulator and us doing rotations at tertiary-care level 1 trauma hospitals is outdated too... what med student wants to watch a liver transplants anyway

It would be nice if lectures were on powerpoint though!

they are, and you know this, man! lol
and the new recording system for the 2nd years is sweet. it synchronizes the pp's with the recording of the lecture so you don't miss a beat.
I'm thinking the main reason why they haven't done so for MS1's, (at least this past year) is so they don't get lazy from the get-go. But it's destined to change...hopefully this upcoming year.

Yeah I would never bet on it for the 1st year. You have our class pres to thank for the recordings, he is the one and only one that got it implemented. I don't use it much but it is nice to know if I actually wanted to listen to a lecture it would be there. I tis really cool, but note service is what I use. It is pretty much a must next year because the lecture note BLOW! The only exception is OB/GYN.

Oh, I meant that we got our own PPT in adition to watching the PPT lecture, but with the notes on it. Or something. We get big packets of notes handed out at the beginning of a class, right? And on top of that, there's a note service, for when you miss your 30% of class, right?

lol, yeah. calm down, don't blow a fuse!
