Hello,

I am (luckily) struggling with which school to put down a deposit for. A little bit about myself: I am living in Boston, all my friends are in the area. I would ideally like to stay close, but that is if my education and happiness don't suffer at the school I choose. Does where you go to school affect where you match for residency? I would love to come back to Boston someday. Would appreciate any input from current students or fellow pre-meds!

NYITCOM hands down. You'll be closer to your social support network. There are mixed reviews about NSU's reputation, and from reading SDN threads, NYITCOM has a good reputation in the DO community.

Where you attend has minimal effect on where you match (unless it you go to an ivy-league). The matching process heavily depends on your performance as a student and your board scores. Some schools prepare their students better than other schools. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

As per Goro's Guide to the DO School Application Process, 2018 ed.

Nova: four consecutive years of declining first-time COMLEX pass rates. They're now at ~85% and this is something you expect from a new school, not a veteran. Something is very wrong there.

The cheaper one... just kidding (sort of)

They'll both offer you similar opportunities, and if it were me, I'd err on the side of being closer to your social supports. Its so much nicer when you can actually use your time off to do things you enjoy with people you care about.
