Hey,

Just wanted to know what you guys have heard about the number of residency applicants this cycle compared to last year. Wondering if it's going to be tougher this year to match then last year. (hoping not)

Thanks!

Can somebody email ERAS to ask them for the stats? They're supposed to release prelim stats every month of the cycle but have not yet this season.

Some big programs need to cut spots while some small/community/PP programs need to close completely then we can talk competition!!!
Radiology is the only "competitive" specialty with a high-ish USMLE score average that has a lot (>1000) of spots. All the rest are competitive due to both high scores and a smaller amount of spots.
Honestly, it's quite amazing that radiology can almost hang with some of the other specialties in terms of scores considering the number of spots...neurosurg (210), derm (~400), ENT (~300), ortho (~700), plastics (~150). Rads is close to 1100 now.

Can confirm applications at my program are up considerably from the last two years

the number of PGY-2 spots has been relatively constant at approximately 1000 the last 2 or 3 years.
