I have been able to find the number of avaliable spots through NRMP tables, but was curious if anyone knew the approximate number of unique applications (total number of people applying). Thanks.

it doesn't matter...the people who apply for the integrated programs are the same people who apply for the combined ones.

Both, thanks.

RE: your original question:

I don't know the exact number of unique applicants, but I would sometimes ask the secretaries at interviews how many applications they received and how many interviews they offered per available spot. There were approximately 200-250 applications per program; Baylor even announced by email that they received 244. I was told at Cincinnati that they got nearly 250. Because it's so competitive, people apply to many programs all over the place, so it's likely that the 200+ people who applied to program A on the west coast were the same 200+ people who applied to program B in the Northeast. With ERAS, you just click on the programs to which you want to apply, and while it gets costly it's incredibly simple and quick to submit your application to as many programs as you want.

Hope this helps.

I'm told that Pittsburgh had over 300 applications for their 3 spots. It's a dauting number of people.

I also heard that last year they had over ten visiting students do sub-i's (and I don't even know how many of their own students rotated on the service as well). Since away sub-i's are for the most part seasonal and not year-round, it must have been quite crowded during those summer/fall months....and daunting.

sorry..i meant integrated or traditional programs...

its still confusing, and i'm done with the process already...thank God.

Thank you for all the information. I assumed the number would be small (less than 500) as those who apply are mostly top applicants, but I was curious to get a grasp of an actual number. I hope to be is your shoes in about 5 years... ha!
