I was perusing the nrmp site and noticed that a number of categorical programs recently changed the number of available spots. ie. Wash U now 52 spots rather than 50 last week, etc. I saw several instances of this. Anybody know why this may be?

The program is probably increasing in size I would imagine. However, you usually see the opposite occuring...meaning the offered spots are less than the actual true number of spots, which means pre-matches and under-the-table deals.

Where did you find this information?

I came across the numbers at the nrmp site using the search by individual states, as used to select a program for ranking. It would not have phased me except that I noticed different figures less than a week ago. It's not such a big deal, but it still makes me wonder...

Jan 30th was the last date till when programs were allowed to change their quotas for this year. The numbers you saw earlier were probably from last year which might mean a change in total number of slots for the program or that certain slots were decided out of match earlier (if numbers increase now).
