Does the number of schools you apply to look unfavorably to ADCOMMS? If you apply to 15-20 schools, do they take that into consideration?

Nope. A lot of people apply to 10+ school nowadays so 15-20 is not that much over the average.

Not in my experience. I applied to 20 and got into eight.

Hey crazy4clana (great name by the way),
If I'm not mistaken, the adcomm won't know how many you apply to unless you tell them. Good Luck!

I was asked about how many schools I applied to on a couple of interviews, and when I said 20 they responded by saying.....wow you are serious! So I doubt that it would hurt you to apply to many schools

Based on the "Official guide to dental schools" from last year, applicants apply to 7-8 schools on average. Well, I applied to 20 just to be safe too. 😳

sometimes they will ask you in an interview where you applied to or how many interviews you have received, then ask you why. As long as you have a decent explanation then no bad can come of it.

I applied to 19 and I don't think it affected me at all. If I could go back again I would have tried to apply to 12 or less.

Well I guess the consensus says that it doesn't matter. Back when I was pre-med I was told to apply to 5-10 schools and no more because every school will look like your safety. Good to know that this doesn't apply to dental school.

I applied to 20+! I was asked during some interviews how many I applied to and which I got interviews from. Didn't seem to matter too much.

I applied to at least 15.... I was asked at almost every school where else I applied...My reply....

"I love your school, but at the end of four years, my ultimate goal is to become a dentist; for that reason I applied to a large # of schools"

Of course, that is truly how I feel, so it might not work for you to say that.

Downsides.... COST!
