Hi there,
Yeah, I tend to respond pretty quickly. I'm on vacation right now and I have a cold so I'm on the internet a lot! And I like to check back in on the threads I've posted in.
I'm glad to hear that you haven't experienced any serious side-effects with the vitamins. I'm curious as to what kinds of side-effects you experienced with the Celexa. My friend took antidepressants (Paxil, Effexor) and they induced manic episodes. Unfortunately, her first episode on the Paxil (hypomanic episode) went undetected. Then she experienced withdrawal depression after tapering off the Paxil and had to go on Effexor. The Effexor caused a really bad manic episode and a lot of weight gain. It was then that she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
I think I have to agree with about the drug companies and the suppression of information. You know how now there is a black box warning on antidepressants saying that they can cause suicidal feelings in children? As well, there is a lot of research that indicates that children being treated with SSRIs are particularly vulnerable to manic episodes. That is to say the drugs create the mania problem. Well when my friend took Paxil back in 1997, she was 17. They knew all about the suicide risk and about the mania problem but they just covered up the information. Just recently the drug companies finally admitted the dangers inherent in the use of SSRIs in children. But they knew that back in 1997 when my friend took it. It makes me very angry to think that my friend suffered as a result of the suppression of this information.
I hate to admit it but I think you're right about the greed amongst the drug companies. It seems to be more about the almighty dollar than about actually healing the public.
I'm not saying that psychiatrists are the ones responsible. They get almost all their information from the drug companies and we know what type of information big-Pharma is handing out. Some people think that my position on this topic is extreme but they probably haven't seen a close friend suffer the way I have.
I really think it is about profits. After all, they can't patent vitamins and minerals so there is little interest in researching these alternative treatments. Sad but true.
Thanks for answering my post.
