I wanted to apply to WesternU through the Northwest Track (NWT) and was wondering whether I will have opportunities to do most of my clinicals in California too? On the website it states:

"The required third and fourth year clinical rotations, excluding elective clerkship experiences which can be taken anywhere, will be completed in WesternU/COMP affiliated hospitals in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington or Wyoming. It is expected that many of the WesternU/COMP Northwest Track students will apply for and be accepted to post graduate residencies in the Northwest. "

I don't know if this leaves me with any options other than applying for Residencies in Northwestern states. I'm really hoping to get a spot in Cali though. Maybe I should just apply through the regular track. Any suggestions? Thx.

They seemed pretty adament that NWT students had to do their rotations in the NW states. When/if you go there for an interview, you could ask the specifics.

You can set up your 4th year electives anywhere you want. If you want a residency spot in california, do some of your electives in hospitals here.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want to apply to the NWT if you want to stay in california, why don't you just apply to the regular track where you do your core rotations here too? That is basically the only difference between the two programs.

I thought the regular track is much tougher to get into compared to the NWT? I'm not even sure if thats how it works.

Not at all, its just supply and demand. NWT has something like 30 spots, regular track has 176 or something ridiculous. Your MCAT is barely below the average, you should have no problem.

I applied last year in like February or March, got the 2nd to last interview date and got in just fine with a 3.5/3.6 30Q

Don't sweat it, just apply. If you want to stay in california, I'd suggest regular track.
