Anyone know about how these two schools run their waitlists? I know both just have an unranked pool, and that northwestern's is pretty big (200 or so). I'm wondering how many people they usually pull off the waitlists. I heard that Wash U accepted quite a few people this year, so I'm guessing that means less chances for waitlisters...
Any help would be great!

i was just at washU for the md/pohd revisit and realized something that affects the md situation as well. right now a lot of us are holding an md/phd slot there - and like me, many will withdraw just before april15th (i will tommororw or someting) so we get our deposits back. unlike other schools which have waitlists for mstp's, washU will replace md/phd withdrawals with md's, cause they don't have a waitlist for mstp. since about 60 md/phds were accepted, and about 20 will matriculate, there are 40 of us holding md spots. i'm sure some have withdrawn, but a majority haven't (There is another reivist next weekend).

synopsis: there will be at about 30 md seats opened soon not related to other md accepted withdrawals.

I have been waitlisted at both WashU and NWU, and this is what I know: neither lists are ranked. Both schools seem to waitlist almost all of the students who are not accepted after interview, so both lists are probably large. After they decide to go to the waitlist, they go over all the files on the waitlist again. People at the admissions offices said that it was important to keep your file updated and let them know if their school is your first choice. They also warned against over-doing it. There is no need to keep calling to check on movement of the list. If you are chosen, you will be contacted soon after. A letter of interest/intent is good, but several is probably too much unless you are updating from interest to intent. WashU said that they may begin to take students from the waitlist before May 15th. NWU said it will most likely be after May 15th. NWU took 3 from the waitlist last year, and this year WashU says they expect to take 50. Hope that helps. Good luck.

just to add to what kbcoch posted....Dean Brown told us on interview day that some years they have taken 30 off the waitlist.
