Hey Everyone!

I've never posted on these forums before but have been reading them for a while.

I have a question about some big city programs that I applied to. What has anyone heard about the programs in Chicago as far as quality of training, what kind of life the residents have, and overall atmosphere? More specifically, I was thinking about Rush vs. Loyola (can only make one of these); NW, UIC, and University of Chicago?

Also, same questions about the NYC programs: NYU, Albert Einstein, NY Presbyterian Hosp. - Weill Cornell Medical Center, Columbia, Mount Sinai, and St. Luke's roosevelt Hospital Center?

I'd appreciate any advice/help on this

I trained at U of C and felt it was a solid program, so feel free to PM me w/ specific questions. A good friend of mine trained at NW and really liked that as well. If I had to choose btwn interviewing at Rush and Loyola (you mentioned you could only do one), I'd probably choose Rush based solely on name recognition. I don't know much about either one.

Do a search of the forum, this topic has been covered in great detail. Columbia is the best in NYC, I had a great experience there.

it is difficult to pinpoint the "best" program in nyc. columbia is certainly one of the top, but, in my opinion, not the best program.

if you want a great education, your pick of any fellowship, AND a life - sinai is it.

my ranking - after finishing anesthesia residency is:

mount sinai>columbia>>cornell>>st.luke's-roosevelt>>nyu>>>>every other program

Hey Jeff,

Just out of curiosity, what makes you say st. lukes-roosevelt is better than nyu? I applied to all those programs you ranked. Thanks in advance!

regional is the hot thing right now.
don't get better regional than at SLR

Why is Mt Sinai such a big deal?? The vibe i got was that it was like a creepy cult. "I came here because of Adam Levine.." was all i heard from every resident. I dunno, just creeped me out.

what better reason to come to a program which has a committed, powerful, fun resident advocate as its director? columbia and cornell CERTAINLY don't have those.

people MATTER at sinai (as much as they can matter at a large academic machine). that's why it stands out.
