NY dental schools replacing NB II with a year of GPR?

I heard a couple days ago from my interview that NY dental schools are now implementing a new system where dental school students need to do a year of GPR instead of taking the National Boards Part II in order to graduate/practice(?), basically making dental school a 5 year program in NY. Is this already implemented or is it something they are considering? Also, is this required to practice in NY or just to graduate? Do any of you New Yorkers know about this? Thanks for the help!

The last i heard is that the STATE of NY... will require a residency instead of the clinical exam....

No changes was planned for national boards.

Now about 5 states will require or have a residency as an option to the clinical exam.

This is what I've heard as well. I got this info from a student at NYUCD. Remember, this is ONLY if you plan on practicing in NY State. I don't think this will affect those you do not plan on practicing in NY.

Is the clinical exam part of the NBED Part II? I always thought NBED Part II = clinical exam. 😛

So if you don't wish to practice in NY, for example if you want to go to specialties afterwards, you can still graduate in four? I just want to make sure the residency is only for those who wish to practice in NY and not just to graduate from a school in NY.
