NY ers: Is 3rd ave & 124th st safe?

sorry, i know. i'm starting a new thread, but i wanted to get some feedback. i've got a hotel reserved in this area for a reasonable price, which is one of the reasons i wonder if it's a safe area. i told my boyfriend i'd ask you guys if i'll be alright staying in that area for the night.

honestly I doubt you'd get shot - but you'd probably find it uncomfortable.
I put up a web site here for hotels in NYC - see if you can drag it up.

Don't worry the area is fine, even Bill Clintons office is only a few blocks away anyways just be smart and don't go wandering around at 3 in the morning.

einstein is just off the 6?

I have no idea where 3rd ave and 124th street is (but I guess the other posters who responded do?).

Anyway, Einstein is close to the 6, but the 6 train is not that close to Einstein- you would definitely need to take a cab. There are hotels in the Bronx that would be closer to Einstein than say a hotel in Spanish Harlem. I think Pelham Gardens is one. It is not a Hyatt, but is is safe and it is relatively close to the school (you would need to take a cab to the school if you are not driving). PM me if you are really interested in motels in the Bronx.

Well Columbia is near by, but Columbia P&S is another 40+ blocks away...

I have lived in Harlem for the past year (after being born and raised in small-town Wisconsin), and you shouldn't have any problem at 124th and 3rd. It's actually right by the Metro North train station, so you won't even look too out of place with your suitcase. Just to be on the safe side, though, you probably shouldn't go out after 10 (you should be sleeping anyway if you have an interview the next day). Don't take the 6 though, take the 5 to 180th, then the Bx21 bus to Eastchester Road (make sure you are going in the right direction--ask the bus driver). For Columbia, you would have to take the M60, M100 or M101 on 125 to Amsterdam, walk a block to Broadway and catch the 1 or 9 train to 168th.
