Hey guys,

in regards to opening a private practice, which state would an OD have more more business in? I am aware that there are urban and suburban type areas in New Jersey, but im just speaking NJ as a whole, not in a specific area. I live in Manhattan and I was thinking, yeah it is more busy and an OD can get more patients working in NYC, but there is also more compitetion in NY than there is in lets say NJ. If anyone from the tristate area (NY, CT, NJ) can give me their two cents, I would appreciate it! Thanks.🙂

you have to do the numbers i have practices in both states. and where specifically are u talking about soho, midtown, washington heights? i need more information.

anywhere in manhattan...lets say upper east side for example, b/c thats where I live.

Okay upper east side. What you have to look at is the rent and the traffic. The rent in ny will be 3x more than nj. But the traffic can be 10x. You also have to look at the competition. I personally don't like the upper east side. I know glasses on first did very well. But most people that live there go to work during the day so you have to be open late.

btw I lived in the upper east side.

haha oh yea? where at? i live on 74th and lex. Where do you live now? so you think NJ would be the better deal in terms of making more money?

I lived on 79th and 1st. I think you can make money in both places. Both markets are saturated so it won't be easy but YOU CAN DO IT.
