What is the job market like in NYC for hospitalists (range/hourly rate for salary and moonlighting)? I've heard low numbers for both salary and moonlighting but have heard that the numbers are better in the suburbs. Is it possible to live in a suburb and be close enough to the city to be able to use the subway to experience city life?

Why not live in the city and commute to the suburbs? Or better yet, bag it all and move somewhere livable? Leaving NYC was the best thing I've ever done for my QOL.

The job market is rough. Salary, living expenses are some negative factors. Unless you are "money-bags" Mcgee, whether from a trustfund or some side revenue/investments, I would strongly reconsider the NYC area. I still miss NYC at times, (went to NYU) but I can't ever go back, not unless I miraculously become a multimillionaire. And I mean rich enough that I can have a nice penthouse, chauffeur etc...like P. Diddy 🙂

I agree with theneh 100 %. NYC medicine (any field) is unrealistic for those of us who need to work. There's always someone else with equivalent credentials who can work for less, much less.
