NYC inpatient salary

not enough that i'd want to live in new york

This is could be 100% wrong but I heard of a recent residency graduate starting out at a hospital in Queens doing inpatient for 180k.

150s-180s, i'd say, with more academic positions tending to fall at the lower end of that range

Can one work a PP gig on the side to supplement the academic job?

Yes, in general you can do that, and some inpatient positions will be 50-80% time.

That doesn't seem so great, given that Midwestern inpatient jobs are $225K and up to start, with significantly lower costs of living.

I think NYC psychiatrists who want to make good money generally take inpatient jobs primarily to supplement their income while building their solo cash-only private practices.

what about locums in midwest + live in ny.

New York and Boston have notoriously low pysc salaries due to such a high saturation of docs. Probably no more than 180K, with exceptions.

Highest salaried regions tend to be Midwest, West, and Southwest.

I had a friend who took a job in New Mexico starting at 265K, with benefits.

And Yes,

It is pretty common to supplement an in-patient position with a PP practice. As your PP builds, though, you'll have to scale back in-patient. Also, referring patients from in-patient to your PP can be considered unethical, so be advised. Some hospitals don't have a problem with it though. That being the case, you can syphon a lot of patients from in-patient to your practice and establish a very large volume.
